Marc Lagrange is considered one of the most renowned photographers in Europe. Over the years, he has developed his own unique and recognisable style of capturing female beauty : razor sharp as well as cinematic. He brings sensual femininity to a higher level, with many of his pictures mirroring a clearly sexual vibe without being explicit. They all breathe an intrinsic peace. Much like the work of his other sources of inspiration : Helmut Newton and - especially - Peter Lindbergh. With one commission following another at top speed, Marc continues working at his personal work in his stylish studio – a former furniture factory in the city centre of Antwerp.

Last year, I was lucky enough to meet the man in person at his 20th anniversary exposition XXML in ‘Maison Lagrange’. I’ve got the book… and the autograph :)

The Black Box Revelation is two Belgian teenagers, Jan Paternoster on guitar and Dries van Dijck on drums, whose debut album, “Set Your Head on Fire” (Beverly Martel/T for Tunes), stomps its way toward garage-rock and proto-punk, with Mr. Paternoster yowling like Iggy Pop or Mick Jagger and calling for love. Every so often they strip the music down to something slow and bluesy. But the Black Box Revelation isn’t purely retro. They are just as happy with a drum-machine beat and a heap of overdubbed percussion, as long as the music makes its happy, trashy crash. – February 24, 2008, The New York Times

In 2011 Jan and Dries went back to Hollywood to record their third album ‘My Perception’ which was released in October 2011. They stood an excellent chance as supporting act of Jane’s Addiction and they will soon perform live in David Letterman’s  The Late Show on CBS. ‘Madhouse’, the first track of their new album  will be featured in the fifth season of Californication.

Keep your eyes (and ears) out for these rockers!

Belgoo Luppoo (Belgium) - This non-filtered beer is made from two grains: oats and barley malts. Very nice, slightly spicy, yeasty, hoppy pine taste, and some citrus flavors.

I wasn’t even aware about the existence of this beer. Not sure if it is sold in Belgium. More and more belgian brewers develop ‘export only’ beers as the belgian market is already over-saturated. Interesting stuff.

Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae

Julius Caesar, De Bello Gallico, Book I, “Of all these [Gauls] the Belgians are the bravest.” Caesar suffered his greatest military defeat at the hands of the Belgians. Today, July 21st, the Belgians celebrate their national holiday. However, it won’t be much of a party.Remember Belgium broke the record for the world’s longest wait for a government. For more than 400 days already, the Flemish (Northern, dutch speaking region) and Walloons (Southern, French speaking region) are desperately trying to establish a new government, but all in vain. This quote by the infamous Julius Caesar might remember us of our fighting spirit and boost the morale…or not. Cheers! For all who have missed our world record, read the article in Time magazine.
